The order was issued after a group of professors including the vice-chancellors of Colombo University, Sri Jayawardenepura University and Kelaniya University participated in separate discussions with the Minister recently.

IGP Wickramaratne and Western Province Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon participated at the meeting and During the meeting, the minister inquired about the current security situation of the students of the universities.

Vice-Chancellor of the University of Colombo, Senior Lecturer H.D. Karunaratne requested to strengthen security near the students’ hostels. Accordingly, the Minister ordered the Inspector General of Police to increase night patrolling near the University of Colombo.

The Vice-Chancellor also said there has been an increase in thefts in the university. The Minister and the IGP then pointed out to the officials on the measures to be taken to ensure security in the university.
