Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das died after battling bullet injuries for several hours after being shot at by a policeman, Jan 29th.
A team of doctors operated on him after he was airlifted from Jharsugada to Bhubaneswar, Das, who was 60, was shot in the chest at Brajrajnagar town around 1 pm when he was on his way to attend a programme in Jharsuguda district.
“On operating (it) was found that a single bullet had entered and exited the body, injuring the heart and left lung, and causing massive internal bleeding and injury. The injuries were repaired, and steps were taken to improve the pumping of the heart. He was given urgent ICU care. But, despite best of efforts, he could not be revived and (he) succumbed to his injuries,” Apollo Hospital officials said in a statement.
“Assistant Sub-inspector of Police (ASI) Gopal Das opened fire at the minister, who sustained bullet injuries, The accused ASI was nabbed by locals, who then handed him over to the police.” told reporters.
