The Lankadeepa newspaper has reported that President Ranil Wickremesinghe has instructed the Attorney General to look into the necessary measures to repeal the gazette issued by Ranil as the Minister of Defense naming several special locations in Colombo as high security zones.
Lankadeepa has reported that the President will come to Sri Lanka after his visit to Japan and sign the withdrawal of this gazette. In a press conference on September 26, State Minister Pramita Bandara Thennakoon also said that a decision will be taken regarding the High Security Zone Gazette after the President comes to Sri Lanka.
News states that this was because a group of economic experts said that activites in the economic areas will be hindered and not because it affects the general public. Ranil Wickremesinghe is not sensitive towards common people.
But, at the same time, Ranil Wickremesinghe hopes to implement an action plan regarding protests in those areas, with the intervention of intelligence agencies.
Ranil Wickremesinghe falsely interpreted the sections of the Official Secrets Act and illegally designated these high security zones. Even now, more than 10 fundamental rights petitions are being prepared against it. Expert lawyers are preparing to take legal action against it.
Nevertheless, the President has instructed the Ministry of Public Security to cancel the designation of high security zones and create a security program for those areas with intelligence agencies.
